Why don't WhatsApp calls work in the UAE?

WhatsApp voice and video calls are restricted on UAE networks. That restriction can apply even when your Atli mobile data is otherwise working normally.

WhatsApp messages and normal internet data can still work.

What is blocked, and what still works?

• WhatsApp voice and video calls: may not connect on UAE networks.
• WhatsApp messages: continue to work over mobile data.
• Other internet use: maps, email, websites and other data services can still use your mobile data normally.
• Approved calling services: some internet-calling apps are permitted in the UAE.

Does a different SIM or eSIM fix it?

Usually not. The restriction is applied at the network/service level rather than by the Atli eSIM itself.

Switching to another SIM or eSIM does not necessarily make WhatsApp calling available.

Do WhatsApp calls work on hotel Wi-Fi?

Not necessarily. UAE network restrictions can also apply when you are using local Wi-Fi, so switching from mobile data to hotel or café Wi-Fi may not make WhatsApp calling available.

How do I check whether my Atli data is working?

1. 1Turn Wi-Fi off temporarily.
2. 2Open a webpage.
3. 3If it loads, your Atli mobile data is working. A WhatsApp call failing by itself does not mean the eSIM has a data problem.

How can I call from the UAE?

• Use an approved internet-calling service available in the UAE.
• Use your own SIM for a regular phone call if your carrier supports roaming there.
